Paint Grade
Better suited for painting than stain/clear coat due to natural imperfections—mineral deposits and sap discoloration. All MDF is paint-grade.

Maple Paint Grade Maple Paint Grade has natural color and grain variation and is best for painting. |
Natural Grade
Natural Grade wood can have green tints from sapwood, but has a more even grain pattern than paint grade.
Red Oak Natural Wheat-pink to red color tones with natural color variation, mineral deposits, small closed knots/pin knots, and some sapwood. |
Maple Natural Light color toned wood with natural color variation, mineral deposits, and heartwood/sapwood deposits. It can also have small closed knots/ pin knots. |
Birch Natural Birch Natural contains heartwood and sapwood, creating a “calico” mixture of white and pink tones. It can also have small closed knots/pin knots, mineral deposits, and color variation. |
Cherry Natural Features natural characteristics, such as pitch pockets, closed knots/pin knots, and sapwood deposits. Cherry natural shows more color variation than other grades of cherry. |
Birch Natural Panel / Alder Natural Frame Features natural characteristics in both panel and frame, including color/grain variation, mineral deposits, small closed knots/pin knots. This is a great option for flat panel doors that will be finished with paint. |
Alder Natural Contains some color and grain variation and other natural characteristics like small closed knots and pin knots. |
Select/Finish Grade
Select grade wood is the most even and uniform in color and grain pattern. It is best for clear coat and staining.
Alder Select Consistent color and grain patterns. Alder select has soft, straight grains with an even texture. The natural color varies from pale yellow to red-brown. |
Euro Steamed Beech Features a relatively straight and even grain pattern and color. Similar in appearance to alder, but contains characteristic “flecks” in grain pattern. |
Red Oak Select Wheat-pink to red color tones with an open grain pattern. Small, linear pores make red oak select best for staining and clear coat. |
Rustic Knotty Alder Rustic Knotty Alder is characterized by its “open dead knots” which may contain cracks. |
Maple Select Even color and grain with a light tone. Maple Select is a great neutral material for any stain. |
Pecan Select A mixture of medium/dark brown heartwood and light/white sapwood for a “calico” effect. Fewer knots/pin knots and mineral deposits. |
Cherry Select Rich red tones with minimal color variation and reduced pin knots. Cherry Select can still have pitch pockets. |
